Uganda’s Kiplimo wins bronze at world junior athletics

first_img****[email protected] on: WhatsApp Jacob Kiplimo got Uganda off to a fine start on the first day of the World U-20 Athletics Championship in Bygdgoszcz, Poland by snatching bronze in the 10000m final.The 15-year-old Olympic-bound runner came third Tuesday in 27:26.68 behind  Kenya’s Rodgers Chumo Kwemoi, who stamped his authority on this race from the start winning in 27:25.23, and Eritrea’s Aron Kifle who was forced to settle for silver in 27:26.20 after making several mid-race surges.Kifle set an Eritrean U-20 record of 27:26.20 while  Kiplimo had a Personal Best of 27:26.68 to console himself with after finishing third. In other events involving Ugandans on day 1, Esther Chebet qualified for today’s 800m semifinals while Peruth Chemutai made it to the final of the steeplechase tomorrow.Chemutai and Kiplimo are on the Ugandan team prepraring for the Rio Olympics.Uganda entered seven athletes in the Poland event. They are Esther Chebet (800m), Mercyline Chelanga (5000m), Peruth Chemutai (3000m SC), Albert Chemutai (3000m SC), Victor Kiplangat (5000m), Jacob Kiplimo (10000m) and Martin Musau (5000m and 10000m)last_img
